Coaching Requirements
USA Hockey coach requirements are listed below. For questions regarding placement on your official USA Hockey roster, please contact Vicki Lowndes, Registrar.
1. USA Hockey Registration
Required every season.
2. Background Screening
Required every 2 seasons.
3. Safe Sport Training
Required every season.
USA Hockey Safe Sport Program is an online training/education that is available to help our members become aware of the information necessary to help prevent abuse from occurring in our sport. Coaches, officials, players, employees and volunteers are entitled to take the training at no cost.
Once you have completed the Core Safe Sport Course, there will be a Refresher Course available for individuals who have previously completed the core Safe Sport course and need to recertify. Users completing the Safe Sport refresher course will be certified for an additional season.
Safe Sport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for twelve (12) months.
4. Coach Certification (CEP)
Dependent upon current level.
Must be completed by Dec. 31st of each season. Find, register and attend the required certification clinic. You can only attend one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1. The coaching clinic season for Levels 1-3 officially runs from September 1 to December 31.
5. Age Specific Modules
Dependent upon current level.
This is a one time course needed only for the age group that you are coaching.
You must complete each module PRIOR to participating on ice with your team. Coaches must be current USA Hockey members in order to register for the modules. You can register for only one module at a time. You must complete the module in its entirety before you can move on to another one.
